- Type of Valves: During ventricular systole, the AV valves (mitral and tricuspid) close to prevent backflow into the atria. The semilunar valves (aortic and pulmonary) open to allow blood to be pumped from the ventricles into the aorta and pulmonary artery.
- Duration: Ventricular systole lasts about 0.3 seconds.
