Solution

  1. The labour movement in India emerged in the background of industrialisation. Railway companies in the textile industry were established in India in the latter half of the nineteenth century. In 1899, railway workers went on strike for their demands. However, the first organisation dedicated to resolving workers' issues was established in 1920.
  2. This organisation is known as the All India Trade Union Congress. In the post-independence period, the labour movement started working more effectively. In the 1960s and 1970s, the labour movement organised several agitations. But from the 1980s, the labour movement began to disintegrate. Globalisation has greatly affected labour mobility.
  3. In India, workers are facing different problems. Unstable employment conditions, contract labour, financial insecurity, the absence of legal protection for workers, unlimited working hours, workplace insecurity, and health hazards are among the problems.
