In 1609, Galileo constructed a telescope that produced an erect image of an object using only two lenses. Galileo’s telescope consists of two lenses located at the ends of a long tube, as shown in the figure below. Both lenses are arranged so that the distance between them can be adjusted. The objective was a convex lens, and the eyepiece was a concave lens.
