Solution
A bye is a privilege in a knockout sports tournament that allows a team or participant to skip the first round and advance directly to the second round without playing.
Byes are then distributed between the upper and lower halves; for an odd number of teams, use the following allocation formulas:
\[\text{Number of byes} = \text{next higher power of }2 - \text{number of teams}\]
\[\text{Upper-half byes} = \frac{nb-1}{2}\],
\[\text{Lower-half byes} = \frac{nb+1}{2}\]
Here, (nb) is the total number of byes.
