Solution
The process of collecting the wife’s or donor’s eggs and the husband’s or donor’s sperm and causing them to develop into a zygote under controlled conditions in a lab is known as in vitro fertilization, or IVF (Test Tube Baby Program). The embryo transfer (ET) process comes next. There are two kinds of it:
- Zygote Intra Fallopian Transfer (ZIFT): Transferring zygotes or early embryos (with up to 8 blastomeres) into the fallopian tube is known as zygote intrafallopian transfer, or ZIFT.
- Intra Uterine Transfer (JUT): Transferring embryos with more than eight blastomeres into the uterus is known as intrauterine transfer, or JUT.
Test tube babies are the term used to describe the offspring created using this technique. To help women who are unable to conceive, embryos created through in vivo fertilization (fertilization within the female) can also be used for such transfers.
