Solution

A hub is a networking device that connects multiple computers and acts as a central point in a network.

  1. Passive Hub: It is a simple connector used to join network cables. It does not amplify or process signals. It only forwards data to all connected devices.
  2. Active Hub: Contains electronic components. It amplifies and regenerates signals. Improves signal strength and network reliability.
  3. Intelligent Hub: Advanced hub with management and monitoring features. Can perform diagnostics and control network traffic. Provides better control than active hubs.
  4. Switching Hub (Switch): Also called a network switch. It sends data only to the destination port (not all devices). Reduces network traffic and improves performance.
  5. Hierarchical Hub (Child/Parent Hub): Hubs are arranged in levels (parent and child hubs). Used to expand network size. Forms a tree or hierarchical structure.
