Solution

Given:

`(sin 42°)/(sec 48°) + (cos 42°)/("cosec" 48°)`

Step 1:

sec (90° − θ) = cosec θ

cosec(90° − θ) = sec θ

sin(90° − θ) = cos θ

cos(90° − θ) = sin θ

48° = 90° − 42°

Hence, sec⁡ 48° = cosec⁡ 42°

cosec 48° = sec 42°

Step 2:

`(sin 42°)/(sec 48°)`   ...[First term (i)]

= `(sin 42°)/("cosec" 42°)`

= `((sin 42°)/1)/(sin 42°)`

= sin2 42°

= `(cos 42°)/("cosec" 48°)`    ...[Second term (ii)]

= `(cos 42°)/(sec 42°) = ((cos 42°)/1)/(cos 42°) = cos^2 = 42°`

sin2 42° + cos2 42° = 1
