Advertising can be classified into two categories, viz, product advertising and institutional advertising. It can also be classified as consumer advertising, industrial advertising, trade advertising and non-profit advertising on the basis of people to whom it is directed. On the basis of timing of the response, it can be classified as direct action advertising and indirect action advertising.
