David Livingstone was a famous explorer. In 1855, he discovered the beautiful Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River. He also travelled in Central and Southern Africa and tried to stop the slave trade.

Mungo Park, a Scottish explorer, explored the River Niger in West Africa. He went on two journeys in 1795 and 1805 and gave people more information about the land.

Henry Morton Stanley explored Central Africa. In 1876–77, he followed the path of the Congo River from Lake Tanganyika to the Atlantic Ocean.
