Characteristic features of Alluvial soil:

• It is highly fertile and easily tillable.
• The soil color ranges from light grey to ash grey.
• It is fine-textured near rivers (Khadar) and coarser in older deposits (Bhangar).
• It is frequently replenished by floods, which adds to its fertility.
• It retains adequate amounts of phosphoric acid, potash, alkalis, lime, and iron oxide.
• It is suitable for cultivation of crops like rice, wheat, sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, jute, maize, and oilseeds.

Thus, the fertile alluvial soil in the flood plains supports intensive agriculture in the region.
