Question

Draw right-angled ΔABC of lengths of sides are 3 cm, 4 cm and 5 cm. Draw median on the hypotenuse of ΔABC.

Then:

1. Measure the length of median and write it. 
2. By observing lengths of median and hypotenuse write your observations.

Answer 1

a. BD = 2.5 cm.

b. Length of the median = BD = 2.5 cm

Length of the hypotenuse = AC = 5 cm

∴ Length of the median = `1/2` × Length of the hypotenuse

In a right-angled triangle, the median drawn to hypotenuse is half of the hypotenuse.
