The introduction of reservation for women (33% or more) in Panchayati Raj Institutions has given them a voice in local governance and decision-making. Many women, especially from rural and marginalized backgrounds, have gained leadership roles, improved confidence, and become active in solving community issues such as education, health, and sanitation.

Through their participation, women have also brought attention to issues affecting other women and children, which were often ignored earlier. Although challenges like lack of education, social pressure, and male dominance still exist, the Panchayat system has opened the door for greater empowerment and representation of women in Indian society.
