Solution

India should pursue both reform and responsible participation. It should oppose the undemocratic concentration of power and demand greater representation for developing countries, limitation of veto misuse and a more accountable Security Council. At the same time, India can seek permanent membership because its population, democracy, economy, military capacity, peacekeeping contribution and international role justify a larger responsibility. The aim should not be to become another boss, but to make the UN more representative, democratic and effective.
