Discuss the properties of natural rubber.

1. Natural rubber is highly elastic. It can be stretched and returns to its original shape after the force is removed.
2. It does not absorb water easily and acts as a good water-resistant material.
3. It is a good electric insulator. It does not allow electric current to pass through it easily.
4. It is soft and flexible. It can be bent or twisted without breaking.
5. Natural rubber becomes soft and sticky in hot weather and hard in cold weather.
6. It has poor resistance to chemicals. It is affected by oils, petrol and many chemicals.
7. It can be vulcanised. On heating with sulphur, its strength and durability increase.
8. It absorbs vibrations and shocks effectively.
