Solution

When measuring national revenue, double counting is the mistake of counting a good’s worth more than once. This typically happens when final goods are included alongside intermediate goods, which causes the national income to be overestimated.

Example: If the values of wheat, flour, and bread are all added separately, the value of wheat is counted multiple times, once as wheat and again as part of bread. 

How it is resolved:

  • By including only final goods in national income.
  • Using the value-added method, which adds only the net contribution at each stage of production
