Solution

  1. Britain was unable to keep control over India after World War II due to its economic weakness.
  2. Particularly from the Indian National Congress, the call for independence had grown stronger.
  3. Widespread public discontent following the Indian National Army (INA) trials increased pressure on the British.
  4. The newly elected Labour Government in Britain gave Indian aspirations more thought. The Muslim League’s demand for Pakistan was also contributing to an increase in intercommunal hostilities.
  5. The failure of the 1945 Simla Conference also underscored the need for a fresh political effort. The Cabinet Mission was dispatched in March 1946 to devise a solution for the transfer of power in light of these circumstances.
