Solution
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder classified under anxiety disorders. It is characterised by obsessions and compulsions that interfere with a person’s daily life.
Obsessions are repeated, unwanted thoughts, ideas, or urges that cause anxiety or fear. For example, fear of germs, excessive concern about cleanliness, or constant doubt.
Compulsions are repetitive actions or behaviours performed to reduce the anxiety caused by obsessions, such as frequent hand washing, checking locks repeatedly, or arranging things in a fixed order.
People suffering from OCD are usually aware that their thoughts and actions are irrational, but they feel unable to control them. OCD can affect a person’s studies, work, relationships and overall quality of life.
Treatment of OCD includes counselling, behavioural therapy, and in some cases, medication. With proper treatment and support, individuals with OCD can manage their symptoms and lead a normal life.
