Positive effects of mass media on society:

1. It can keep us connected: Before the advent of modern media, it was possible to live a life completely isolated from the outside world. We are now all connected. This can be a positive thing. When a tsunami strikes, people worldwide quickly learn about it and mobilise to help. Without the mass media, we would have significantly less understanding of how we are all interconnected and dependent on each other.
2. It can give voice to the voiceless: Mass media can elevate an individual voice that might not have otherwise been heard, from reporters suggesting to us about people in trying circumstances to social media enabling one person's ideas to go viral and travel the world.
3. It can help to increase Government accountability to the masses: Governments are well aware that the media actually serves as the watchdog of democracy in this era of media glare. All actions and legalised policies will be fully disclosed to the public, after which they will be examined and held responsible.
