Solution

Parameter Peak Value (I0) Root Mean Square (RMS) Value (Irms)
Definition It is the maximum value reached by an alternating current during one complete cycle. It is the effective value of AC that produces the same amount of heat in a resistor as DC does.
Value It is always greater than the RMS value. It is equal to 70.7% of the peak value (0.707 × I0).
Significance It represents the highest instantaneous value of the current. It represents the value used for calculating useful power output and is what ammeters usually measure.
