Predation Scavenging
1. Predation is a kind of direct food relationship between two animal species. Scavenging is a feeding behavior where animals consume the dead bodies of other animals.
2. In predation, one organism, called a predator, captures and kills another species, called prey, for food. In scavenging, the organism called a scavenger eats animals that have died naturally or are killed by others.
3. The predator is a free-living organism actively hunting its prey. Scavengers feed on carcasses left after death or killing by other animals.
4. Predators kill other living animals for food. Scavengers do not kill; they consume already dead animals.
5. Predation helps transfer energy to higher trophic levels through active hunting. Scavenging helps in cleaning the environment by disposing of dead animal bodies.
