  Corpus luteum Corpus albicans
(i) Formed from the ruptured Graafian follicle after ovulation. Formed by the degeneration of the corpus luteum when pregnancy does not occur.
(ii) Produces progesterone (and small amounts of oestrogen). Does not produce any hormones.
(iii) Yellow in colour due to lutein pigment. White, fibrous scar-like body.
