Cut Abrasion
A cut is an injury caused by a sharp object. An abrasion is an injury caused when the skin is scraped against a rough surface.
It may be caused by shaving blades, knives, sharp tools or sharp edges. It commonly occurs when a person slips or falls on a rough surface.
It produces a wound in the skin and may cause bleeding. It causes the outer skin (epidermis) and sometimes the dermis to wear away.
Example: A cut on the finger caused by a sharp blade. Example: A football player scraping the knee after falling on a hard surface.
It is treated by cleaning the wound, applying an antiseptic and covering it with a bandage. It is treated by cleaning the area, applying a medicated ointment and covering it with a sterile pad.
