Solution

Kailasa Temple, Ellora

Type of Architecture: Rock-cut architecture

Location: Ellora, Maharashtra

The Kailasa Temple at Ellora is a remarkable example of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture. Instead of building the temple with separate stones, the entire structure was carved out of a single huge rock. It has beautiful pillars, sculptures, halls, gateways, and detailed carvings of gods, animals, and other figures.

The temple shows the skill, patience, and advanced knowledge of ancient Indian craftsmen. The artists had to carefully remove large amounts of rock while preserving the important parts of the structure. The monument is also an important example of Indian temple architecture and sculpture.

For the Exhibition:

  • Display pictures of the Kailasa Temple and its carvings.
  • Make a small model of the temple using clay or cardboard.
  • Show a simple diagram explaining how the temple was carved from rock.
  • Add a short note about its history and architectural features.
  • Use books, reliable websites, and information from a historian or architecture expert as sources.
  • Request the teacher to invite a local historian or expert to explain more about rock-cut architecture and answer students’ questions.
