The Night of Courage
Once I was alone at my home. My parents had gone to another village to attend a family function. I had stayed back because I had school the next day and an important class test. It was my first time staying all alone, and though I tried to act brave, I was a little nervous inside.
The day passed peacefully. I studied well, had my dinner, and watched some TV. As the sun set, the silence started to feel louder. Every small sound in the house felt bigger, creaking windows, the wind brushing the door, and distant howls of dogs. Still, I locked all doors properly, kept the phone close, and went to bed.
Around midnight, I suddenly woke up. There was a strange noise coming from the kitchen. My heart started beating fast. I tiptoed slowly, picked up a flashlight, and walked toward the kitchen. The sound continued, it was like something falling or moving. When I finally reached and turned on the light, I was stunned.
A stray cat had entered through the window I had forgotten to lock! It had knocked over a few utensils while looking for food. I sighed in relief, laughed a little, and gently guided the cat out. That night taught me two things. Always double-check the locks! And more importantly, being brave doesn't mean you’re never scared, it means you face your fear even when you are.
The next day, my parents returned. I told them the entire story. They were proud that I had handled everything on my own. And since then, I never feared being alone again.
