Solution

It reacts with the silver ore, Ag2S, (Argentite) to form a soluble complex from which silver can be displaced by adding more electropositive metal like Zn.

\[\ce{Ag2S + 4NaCN + 2O2 <=> 2Na[Ag(CN)2] + Na2SO4}\]

\[\ce{2Na[Ag(CN)2] + Zn -> Na2[2n(CN)4] + 2Ag \downarrow}\]
