Solution

The writer heard the sounds approaching night every day so he was aware of it. But that day, the sounds were different & he came to know that there’s something wrong.  He went to wake up Lord Otori. Later, Lord Otori took a sword & knife with him for their safety & both were observing the intruder from the window. Step by step the intruder entered inside & Lord Otori strangle held him whereas the narrator leaped at him. Three of them fall into the garden. But the moon felt first, across the stream, striking his head on a boulder & later they came to know that the assassin had died without regaining consciousness.
