When a boy was 7 years old. He was sent to gurukul. He stayed there till he was 25 years old. In a gurukul, students had to memorize lessons, which were taught orally. After completing their education, the students paid guru Dakshina according to their means. The students led simple and highly disciplined lives in a gurukul. They helped their guru in many ways like to cleaned house, drawing water from the well, gathering wood, and working in the fields.
