Solution
Athletics events are classified into four groups according to the nature and location of competition:
- Track events: Running races held on the track, including sprints, middle- and long-distance races, hurdle races and relays.
- Field events: Jumping and throwing events, such as long jump, high jump, shot put and discus throw.
- Combined events: Competitions made up of several track and field events. Examples are the decathlon for men and the heptathlon for women.
- Events conducted outside the stadium: Events held on roads or at natural locations, such as the marathon and race walking.
