2. Formation of New Landforms: Earthquakes can cause folding and faulting in the earth’s crust, which leads to the formation of new landforms such as mountains, valleys, plateaus, and lakes.
3. Creation of Lakes: For example, Quake Lake in southwestern Montana, USA, was created after an earthquake struck in 1959. It is 58 meters deep and 9.7 km long. Although the earthquake killed 28 people, the lake itself is a constructive landform resulting from the event.
4. Appearance of Hot Springs and Geysers: Earthquakes may create fissures and openings in the earth’s crust, allowing hot water springs or geysers to appear. These geothermal features can be tourist attractions and sources of geothermal energy.
5. Changes in Coastal Topography: In coastal areas, earthquakes may lead to subsidence or submergence of the ground, forming bays and gulfs which provide suitable sites for natural harbors.
