Back cross is a genetic cross between a first filial (F₁) heterozygote and one of its original parents (P₁ genotype). It is used to study the inheritance of traits. When F₁ is crossed with the dominant parent, progeny exhibit dominant traits. If crossed with the recessive parent, it is called test cross, showing both phenotypes and testing for heterozygosity.
