Tarafdars were provincial governors in the Bahmani Sultanate who administered a taraf (province), collected revenues, appointed officers, and organized local armies. They enjoyed extensive autonomous powers, later curtailed under Mahmud Gawan when provinces were subdivided to limit excessive noble power.
