Solution

The sarangi is a short-necked, bowed string instrument from the Indian subcontinent (especially used in North/Hindustani classical music). It traditionally accompanies vocal music and is played with a bow while the player stops the strings with the sides of the fingernails. It often has a few gut melody strings plus many sympathetic strings to enrich the tone. The instrument (along with the rabab) was brought to India by the Turks.
