Question

Define complete linkage.

Solution

Complete linkage is exhibited when genes for particular characters are located very close to one another on the same chromosome. In this case, the genes do not separate during meiosis because there is no crossing over between them, and thus they are inherited together over generations. This allows the combination of parental traits to be passed on as a unit without recombination. Complete linkage is rare in nature.
