Solution

Given:

  • AB = 5 cm
  • BC = 4.5 cm
  • CD = 6 cm
  • AD = 4.2 cm
  • AC = 5.6 cm

Step of construction:

  1. Construct triangle ABC using the three sides AB = 5 cm, BC = 4.5 cm and diagonal AC = 5.6 cm.

    • Draw line BC = 4.5 cm.
    • With B as center and radius AB = 5 cm, draw an arc.
    • With C as center and radius AC = 5.6 cm, draw another arc to intersect the previous arc at A.
    • Join A to B and A to C.
  2. Locate point D:

    • With A as center and radius AD = 4.2 cm, draw an arc.
    • With C as center and radius CD = 6 cm, draw another arc to intersect the previous arc at D.
  3. Join D to A and D to C.

The quadrilateral ABCD thus formed with the given sides and diagonal is the required quadrilateral.
