Question
Chemical fertilisers are useful to crops. In which way they cause environmental pollution?
Short Answer

Solution
Chemical fertilisers provide nutrients that help crops grow. But when used in excess, they can wash from fields into rivers, lakes and ponds. The extra nutrients, especially nitrates and phosphates, cause rapid growth of algae. When the algae die and decompose, dissolved oxygen in the water is used up, harming fish and other aquatic life. Fertilisers can also pollute and damage soil.
