Solution

Equivalent resistance of A and B in series

\[ \mathrm{R}_{1} = (4 + 8) = 12 \ \Omega \]

\(\therefore\) Equivalent resistance of C and D in series

\[ \mathrm{R}_{2} = (1.5 + 4.5) = 6 \ \Omega \]

Equivalent resistance of \(\mathrm{R}_{1}\), \(\mathrm{R}_{2}\) and E in parallel

\[ \frac{1}{\mathrm{R}_{p}} = \frac{1}{12} + \frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{3} \]

\[ = \frac{1 + 2 + 4}{12} \]

\[ = \frac{7}{12} \]

\[ \mathrm{R}_{p} = \frac{12}{7} \]

\[ = 1.71 \ \Omega\]
