Solution
Biogas is an environmentally beneficial and renewable energy source. Anaerobic digestion occurs when bacteria break down organic substances (e.g., food or animal waste) without oxygen. For this to occur, the waste material must be contained in an environment (known as Bigoas Plant) where there is no oxygen. Organic waste dissolves in water, producing nutrient-rich sludge that can be used as fertiliser. The biogas produced is distributed to the appropriate locations via exit pipes. Methane is a combustible gas, meaning it can be burned. This gas is commonly used for cooking and illumination.
