The Revolt of 1857 began on 10th May 1857 at Meerut in North India. On that day, while British officers were preparing to attend church and most British soldiers were off duty, the Indian sepoys rebelled, broke open the jails, freed fellow prisoners, and attacked British officers.
This marked the official beginning of the Revolt of 1857.
