At the time of the Tiger King’s birth, royal astrologers made an unexpected prediction regarding his future. They predicted that the prince would grow up to be a courageous and powerful monarch. They did, however, warn him that a tiger would seal his destiny. They believed that because he was born during the Bull’s hour, a tiger would eventually kill him. The prediction was shocking, especially since the prince was only ten days old. Surprisingly, the infant prince spoke up and asked the astrologers for further specifics. One astrologer boldly predicted that the king would perish from a tiger. This prophecy had a profound impact on the life of the Tiger King. Determined to defy destiny, he vowed to slaughter all of the tigers in his realm in the hopes of avoiding the promised end. To fulfil his vow, the King successfully hunted ninety-nine tigers, but the hundredth tiger escaped his bullet and was secretly killed by his hunters. Ironically, his death was caused not by a living beast, but by a wooden toy tiger he bought for his son’s birthday. The toy was poorly made, and a tiny bamboo sliver from its surface pierced the King’s right hand. The wound soon became infected, and the infection spread throughout his entire arm. Despite the efforts of three famous surgeons who performed an operation, the King could not be saved. In this way, the hundredth tiger, though only a wooden toy, took its final revenge, proving that the astrologers’ prophecy was inescapable.
