A metallic wire having a resistance of 20 Ω is bent in order to form a complete circle. Calculate the resistance between any two diametrically opposite points on the circle.

Solution

Given: Resistance of the wire = 20 Ω

Diameter divides it into two equal parts with resistance 10 Ω each.

∴ Equivalent resistance between diametrically opposite points:

`1/R = 1/10 + 1/10`

R = `(10 xx 10)/((10 + 10))`

= `100/20`

= 5 Ω
