Exploitation is a universal phenomenon. The poor indigo farmers were exploited by the British landlords to which Gandhiji objected. Even after our independence we find exploitation of unorganized labour. What values do we learn from Gandhiji’s campaign to counter the present day problems of exploitation?

Exploitation is a universal phenomenon, irrespective of time and place. The poor indigo farmers of Champaran were exploited by the Britishers. Such exploitation, especially of unorganised labour, has continued into the present times. Gandhiji's objection to the exploitation of the indigo planters was non-violent yet effective. This episode, therefore, teaches us prompt ways to counter the present day problems of exploitation. The victims should be relieved from fear and made self-reliant. They need to understand their own strengths and not fear to question the authority of the bureaucrats and the rich. Education can go a long way in making this possible.
