1. Political Instability and Autonomy Concerns: Article 370 gave Jammu and Kashmir a special status, creating a complicated relationship with the Indian Union. While some considered it necessary to protect autonomy, others believed it obstructed complete integration. This lack of clarity contributed to ongoing political instability.
2. External Conflict with Pakistan: Since 1947, Pakistan has laid claim to Kashmir and supported separatist activities. Its military actions and control over parts of the region (POJK) have prolonged the conflict and heightened regional tensions.
3. Democratic Weakness and Public Grievances: Election irregularities and political interference weakened democratic processes in Kashmir. The 1987 elections are often seen as a major turning point that led to public alienation and the rise of armed insurgency. Poor governance and lack of accountability further increased dissatisfaction among the people.
