Solution

28, 12

Explanation:

Let the number of ₹2 coins be x,

Then the number of ₹5 coins is 40 − x,

Total amount:

2x + 5(40 − x) = 116

2x + 200 − 5x = 116

−3x + 200 = 116

−3x = 116 − 200

−3x = −84

x = `(-84)/-3`

∴ x = 28

So, x = ₹2 coins = 28

₹5 coins = 40 − x

= 40 − 28

= 12
