Solution

Basis of Difference Varma Rakesh
Type of character Varma is dynamic. Rakesh is largely static.
Beginning He is proud of Rakesh’s achievements and grateful for his devotion. He is presented as a successful, dutiful son who respects his father.
Development As he grows old and becomes dependent, his feelings change to frustration and resentment. Though his methods become strict, he continues to believe that he is caring for his father and acting in his best interests.
Example He eventually rejects Rakesh’s tonic and medicines, declaring that he wants none of them. He continues to bring his father tea and medicine and arrange for him to take the evening air, while imposing strict rules on his diet.
Effect of events His changing view of Rakesh from a source of pride to someone he resents shows his development. His core belief in his own authority and judgment remains substantially unchanged.
