A point P moves so that its perpendicular distances from two given lines AB and CD are equal. State the locus of the point P.

Solution

If AB || CD, then the locus is a straight line parallel to the given lines and midway between them. If AB and CD are intersecting, then the locus consists of a pair of straight lines which bisect the angles between the given lines.
