Question
A gas cylinder can hold 150 g of hydrogen under certain conditions of temperature and pressure. If an identical cylinder with the same capacity can hold 450 g of gas ‘G’ under the same conditions of temperature and pressure, find:
- the vapour density of the gas ‘G’.
- the molecular weight of gas ‘G’.

Solution
a. Relative vapour density = `"Mass of volume V of the gas under consideration"/"Mass of volume V of hydrogen gas under similar conditions"`
Vapour density of the gas ‘G’ = `450/150` = 3
b. The molecular weight = 2 × Relative vapour density
Molecular weight of gas ‘G’ = 2 × 3 = 6 g/mol
