Solution

Given: A single card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled standard deck of 52 playing cards.

Step-wise calculation:

1. Total number of equally likely outcomes = 52.

2. Number of kings = 4 and number of queens = 4.

So, total favourable outcomes = 4 + 4 = 8.

3. Probability = `"Favourable"/"Total"`

= `8/52`  ...(Divide numerator and denominator by 4)

= `2/13`

The probability that the card drawn is either a king or a queen is `2/13`.
