Question

A body is thrown vertically upward. Its velocity keeps on decreasing. What happens to its kinetic energy as its velocity becomes zero?

Short Answer

Solution

As the body moves upward, its velocity decreases, so its kinetic energy also decreases.

At the highest point, the velocity becomes zero. Therefore,

K.E. = `1/2 m v^2`

= 0

So, the kinetic energy becomes zero and is converted into gravitational potential energy.
