A 15-meter-high tower casts a shadow of 24 meters long at a certain time. At the same time, a pole casts a shadow 40 meters long. Find the height of the pole.

Solution

Let the height of the pole be h meters.

Using similarity (height : shadow):

`15/24 = h/40`

`h = 15/24 xx 40`

`h = (15 xx 40)/24`

`h = 600/24`

∴ h = 25m
