उत्तर

It secretes progesterone, a hormone that prepares the uterus for implantation. If implantation fails, the corpus luteum goes inactive and degenerates. If an embryo is implanted, the corpus luteum continues to release progesterone until the fourth month of pregnancy, when the placenta takes over this function.
